“Being a public figure doesn’t mean the public owns that person,” Doherty, who herself is living with stage four cancer, began her Instagram post. “We ALL have the right to go through illness or life privately.”

“An onslaught of conspiracy theories, ownership, and just plain, morbid curiosity drove this person to explain herself before she could come to terms with it and explain it to her children,” she continued. “I pray that this is a learning moment for all of us to respect, privacy or others, regardless of being in public.”

“And Princess Kate, I admire your strength through the endless onslaught you were under while going through cancer,” Doherty concluded.

The Princess of Wales revealed she has cancer in an emotional video message released on Friday.

Kate explained that she was diagnosed after post-operative tests following her abdominal surgery in January “found there was cancer” and said she has now started preventative chemotherapy.
