Shaun White and Nina Dobrev Make First Red Carpet Appearance as an Engaged Couple at Earthshot Prize Awards

Shaun White and Nina Dobrev have that engaged glow!

White, 38, and Dobrev, 35, stepped out for their first red carpet date as an engaged couple on Wednesday, November 6, at the fourth annual Earthshot Awards at Green Point Shared Fields in Cape Town, South Africa. The ceremony, hosted by Earthshot founder and chairman Prince William, celebrates the environmental contributions of the five winners.

The glittering green carpet event was attended by the Prince of Wales and many celebrities, including Dobrev and White, who announced their engagement on Wednesday, October 30.

Dobrev stunned in a strapless red dress by Carly Cushnie. She styled her hair down and straight, and accessorized with sparkly earrings and a new 5-carat diamond engagement ring. Standing next to her was White, who opted for a classic black tuxedo.

“I really wanted to support a black designer, and she makes flawless dresses for women,” Dobrev told reporters on the carpet.

The Olympic snowboarder announced a week ago that he popped the question under a white floral arch surrounded by candles. On the carpet, Dobrev tells PEOPLE that the first few days of her new engagement have been “magical.”

She even seemed to be petting her fiancé sweetly on the carpet.

“I was incredibly excited to receive an invitation to present the award at the awards,” The Vampire Diaries alum tells PEOPLE. “It’s a great cause. It’s amazing to be able to highlight all these amazing ground-breaking innovators in all the things they’re doing.”

She continues about the Earthshot Prize Awards finalists: “They’re so unique and so different and they’re all touching the world by helping in their own unique way. But we need them all. We’ll be giving five awards, but all finalists will receive mentoring and support from the organization.”

“We need this now more than ever,” Dobrev adds. “The world is in great need.”

Earlier this week, a source spoke to PEOPLE about how Dobrev and White are “shining” as an engaged couple.

“Everyone is so happy for them,” a source told PEOPLE. “After the proposal, they were calling and texting friends saying, ‘It doesn’t get any better than this,’ and they were just beaming.”

The insider believes Dobrev and White’s upcoming wedding will be a “fun party.”

“They are a perfect match for each other – they are fun and adventurous, but also very close to each other,” the source added.
