Shawn Mendes reflects on the ways he’s grown over the past year.
Tuesday, Miracle the singer shared a reflective post with fans on social media, along with a video of him freely singing along to the harmonium.
“Over the past year I’ve spent a lot of time singing like this.. I’ve found that in moments of extreme anxiety or fear, if I sit down at my harmonium and allow myself to sing with full confidence whatever comes out, it often eases the pain,” wrote 25- annual Mendes.
He continued, “at first it was so hard for me to let myself sing without the need for perfection, but after a while I actually started to fall in love with the dance between the ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ notes… I realized that there are only moments bliss and euphoria from the ‘right’ notes BECAUSE of the ‘wrong’ notes. The only reason I can sing in key is because I learned to listen.”

The “Stitches” singer also wrote that the biggest lesson he learned in 2023 was to “accept and welcome the lows.”
“I don’t need to constantly change or fix something to feel high again, because I know that if I really slow down and listen when I’m low, there’s always something to hear,” he concluded.
Mendes has been open about his mental health in the past. In July 2022, he canceled tour dates for his Wonder: World Tour to focus on his mental health.
Speaking with WSJ. Magazine he said in February that canceling the tour was something prompted by time spent in therapy trying to unpack everything he was dealing with.
“The process was very difficult. I worked a lot in therapy, I tried a lot to understand how I feel and why I feel that way. And then I worked to help myself and heal myself,” he told the newspaper. “And I also rely on the people in my life to help me out a little bit.”

Mendes said “it’s been a lot of work” trying to sort out his feelings, but he feels like the process is working and appreciates the support he’s received.
“I think the last year and a half has been the most interesting, growing and beautiful and simply healing process of my life,” he said. “I’m also very grateful for all the people who have been so accepting and loving and kind and understanding. And it’s really made me see how the culture is really starting to get to a place where mental health is really becoming a priority.”
Since then, the singer has been seen working out while running through the canyons of Los Angeles and leaving the gym soaking wet. In July, Mendes showed off his ripped abs while on vacation in Ibiza, Spain. He was also spotted hanging out with TV personality Charlie Travers, according to photos obtained by TMZ.
