On December 11, 2014, Shehnaz wrote an open letter to several public figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Anil Ambani. The letter was in response to a rape that occurred in an Uber taxi in Delhi. In his letter, Shehnaz asked the public figure to take strict action against sex offenders. Although the letter was well-intentioned, people associated it with a PR stunt as her film Main aur Mr. Right was about to be released. In her letter, she asked men to provide better security for women. This view has also been criticized because it takes away women’s autonomy and makes them dependent on men.
