Sherri Shepherd Pokes Fun at Her $75 Celebrity Jeopardy! Fail: ‘I Should Not Have Done’ That Show

Sherri Shepherd sure knows how to laugh at herself.

On Thursday’s episode of her syndicated talk show of the same name, the comedian poked fun at her appearance on ABC’s Danger from celebrities! the night before, in which she competed against Christopher Meloni and Katie Nolan, finishing with a total of just $75.

“They are there [game] shows that look easy as you sit there, and there are shows that you would never do if you had the chance. Danger!to me, is one of those shows,” Shepherd said Sherri. “I will destroy further The $100,000 pyramid. I pulled out a win on Family feud. … I like games, but Danger from celebrities! is a show I shouldn’t have done in the first place.”

“WITH Danger from celebrities!, you must know something about many things. I know a lot about the little one,” she laughed.

The presenter went on to admit that she had the wrong expectations of what the star version was Danger! it would be like. “When I came on the show, I thought it was going to make it a little easier for the celebrities,” Shepherd said. “When I saw the categories, I was like, ‘Wait a minute, wait, what is this?’ ”

Categories that puzzled Shepherd included forms in nature and demonyms. “I don’t even know what a demonym is!” she laughed. “Supposedly demonym is a word that refers to a resident or native of a certain place, so I definitely didn’t want to pick that!”

There was hope when Shepherd saw a category with J.Lo in the title. “I know everything about J.Lo! I was like, ‘I got it,'” the standup recalled. “[Host Ken Jennings] he asked me to pick and I said, ‘Jenny from the block!’ ”

But instead of Jennifer Lopez trivia, the category looked for other notable names that could go under the acronym, like boxing legend Joe Louis. “I was mistaken!” Shepherd told Jennings on the show. “It was a bait and switch!”

Things got worse during the Final Jeopardy round. “They give you a big index card to lower your bet. But I was so far behind, I said, ‘You can take this marker back!’ ” Shepherd laughed. “While the music was playing… I looked like I was working hard on the questions… But everyone, all I was doing was drawing on that card!”

An image of Shepherd’s doodle was then shown on screen, in which she wrote love messages to longtime crushes Trevor Noah and Jason Momoa. “All I had was $900! What am I going to do but draw Mrs. Trevor Noah [and] Mrs. Jason Momoa?” she joked.

So why did Shepherd make the series in the first place? As she explained on Sherrishe was primarily there to raise money for Move-In Day Mafia, a Project Dreamlight nonprofit known for supporting university scholars who have aged out of foster care, are homeless or struggling financially.

“That’s what I had in mind,” Shepherd said. “Most other shows don’t pay that much money Danger! works for charity. … It was for the benefit of the foster children, it was never about me. … [So] I’m happy as a shell because the Move-in Mafia Initiative got a lot of money.”

Although she didn’t earn a championship, Shepherd has a positive attitude about the whole experience. “This is my year where I don’t think too much about everything,” she continued Sherri. “This is my year, I don’t stress. When I tell you, I’m so relaxed and calm.”

And she left the experience with a valuable lesson: the importance of trusting your instincts.

“Sometimes I thought I knew the answer, but because I didn’t want to look stupid, I wouldn’t say anything,” Shepherd said, before playing an example of one such moment. “During the commercial break, Katie Nolan — who won — kept getting it right. And I said, ‘Katie, everything you’re saying, a lot of it, I got the same answer in my head.’ And she said, “Sherri, you have to trust your gut. Because nine times out of 10 [times], your instinct will not lead you wrong. … It may sound silly, but it’s probably the right answer.’ ”

“So that’s what I learned to take away, which made me so happy,” Shepherd added. “Because it’s like, ‘Sherri, stop thinking you don’t know this. Listen to that voice in your head and [your gut].’ ”
