Prince William then said, “Stop,” which resulted in Mawhinney asking, “Are you sure? change tickets?”
Sticking to his choice, Prince William said: “No, I’ll stick with it.” He then revealed his seven of clubs card to the camera without exposing it to Mawhinney.

“Put them back wherever you want,” Mawhinney continued. “And now we are putting you under pressure. You will shuffle them,” he added as he handed the prince a stack of cards.
“What? Can I mix it my way,” Prince William asked, leading the host to say the royal family can “mix it in any creative way you want”.
“This is not creative, this is the only way I know,” said the prince with a laugh.

After the shuffle, Mawhinney told his royal guest he could choose “the easy way” or “the hard way”, and Prince William quickly replied that he wanted to take the “hard way”.
Mawhinney then told the person behind the camera to “call stop whenever you want”, before asking Prince William to open his palms so he could place each card on top.
After the person said “stop,” Mawhinney asked if he should pick the card in the prince’s hand or the card in his hand, to which the person behind the camera told him to pick the card in Mawhinney’s hand.
The Blue Peter the host then turned over the card and asked if the prince had chosen the eight of clubs.
Thinking Mawhinney was right, Prince William said: “I think so, don’t you?” However, an off-screen person clarified that the prince had chosen seven clubs.
“Ah, it’s been a week!” Mawhinney gasped, revealing that he was holding the real card. “That’s good.”
Bursting with laughter, Prince William replied: “Ah! You got me there, I was like, ‘What’s wrong?’ ”
“That is incredible, Joel,” added the prince. “How did you do that? No, don’t tell me. Don’t tell me.”

Blue Peter has been on the air since October 1958 and is the longest-running children’s TV show in the world.
This is not the first Blue Peter a badge given to Prince William. In 2017, he and his wife Kate Middleton received their gold version in recognition of their work in mental health. They followed William’s late grandmother Queen Elizabeth, who is also a recipient of the special award. Prince William joked that he would “compare” his badge to his grandmother’s, and Kate added that they “have a lot of work to do” to match her.
