Shetland actor Douglas Henshall left viewers heartbroken when he turned down the lead role in the detective movie last year. But fans of the actor will be delighted to know that he will soon be returning to our screens in the latest BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie.
The Scottish star has been cast in BBC One’s upcoming two-part horror series, based on Agatha Christie’s novel, Murder Made Easy.
Douglas will play Major Horton in the series, while rye lane actor David Jonsson as Fitzwilliam Ring of Power actress Morfydd Clark, who will play Bridget.

The film boasts an extensive cast that includes Downton Abbey star Penelope Wilton as Miss Pinkerton, The Crown’s Sinead Matthews as Miss Waynflete and the spectre Actor Mathew Baynton plays Doctor Thomas.

Tom Riley will also appear in the film (pagan) as Lord Whitfield and Douglas’ Shetland co-star Mark Bonnar as Pastor Humbleby.

The cast is rounded off by Tamzin Outhwaite (Ridley Road) as Mrs. Pierce, Nimra Bucha (polite company) as Mrs. Humbleby, Jon Pointing (Big boys) as Rivers and newcomer Phoebe Licorish as Rose.
The film will follow the events of the detective novel, set in 1954 and see Fitzwilliam meet Miss Pinkerton on a train to London, where she informs him that a murderer is hiding in the village. Quiet British Wychwood under Ashe.

While the villagers believed the deaths were random, Miss Pinkerton knew otherwise. Later, when she is found dead en route to Scotland Yard, Fitzwilliam sets out to find her killer before he attacks again.
An upcoming mystery series is being filmed, produced by Mammoth Screen in association with Agatha Christie Limited, in association with BritBox International.

Meanwhile, Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre is adapting the novel to the small screen, with Meenu Gaur as director.

BBC Drama Director, Lindsay Salt, added: “With a gripping central mystery and a fantastic creative team behind the camera, it’s no surprise that this new adaptation of the series Agatha Christie’s classic Whodunnit has drawn a British acting talent to bring Murder Simply to the screen.
“BBC viewers will enjoy a dish that will keep them guessing until the last minute.”
Shetland fans will be delighted to see Douglas Henshall return to their screens after his final appearance as Inspector Jimmy Perez in season seven.

Douglas, who announced his departure last July, will be replaced in the lead role by actress Ashley Jensen, known for her roles in After Life and Agatha Raisin.
