Shia Labeouf News

In response to claims that he was cut from Olivia Wilde’s 2020 film Don’t Worry Darling, Shia LaBeouf has denied the claims.

LaBeouf claims that he left the film because he felt the performers did not have enough time to rehearse. Wilde first spoke about LaBeouf’s departure from her film in a cover interview with Variety published on August 24.

“I say this as someone who is a huge fan of your work. His method does not match the spirit I need for my programs. He has a process that, in a way, seems to require combative energy and I don’t think it’s necessarily conducive to the best results. In my opinion, the best way to encourage people to produce their best work is to establish a safe and trusting environment. Ultimately, it is my responsibility to the project and to the actors to protect them. He had to, said Wilde.

LaBeouf’s representatives declined Variety’s request for comment on the situation when they received it before the story broke.

LaBeouf, however, claimed that he “left the film due to lack of rehearsal time” on August 17, 2020 in emails sent to Variety last Thursday, denying that he was fired. The actor shared two emails that he claims to have sent to Wilde on Wednesday and Thursday, after the International cover story was published. LaBeouf wrote in the emails: “You and I already know the reasons for my departure.” I gave up on your movie because your actors and I couldn’t find time to rehearse.”

At the time of LaBeouf’s departure, multiple studio sources confirmed to Variety that he had been fired from the company. However, according to another source familiar with the incident, the breakup was more of a mutual acknowledgment that LaBeouf’s acting technique did not mesh well with Wilde’s directing philosophy. Representatives for Warner Bros. and Wilde declined to comment.

LaBeouf shared with Variety screenshots of a text exchange he sent to Wilde in August 2020, when he told him he would have to pull out of “Don’t Worry Darling.” He was cast in the role of Jack, the lead who was later replaced by Harry Styles.

LaBeouf and Wilde reportedly met in person to discuss his exit from the film on August 16, 2020, according to the texts. Later that night, Wilde sent him a text saying: “Thank you for sharing your thought process with me. I know it’s not fun. I appreciate your honesty, but it doesn’t feel good to turn someone down. I am grateful that you have agreed to come with me there so that I can share the story with you. I’m disappointed because maybe there was something.
