The petitioner submitted that the paper published “very sexy and medium magnification” and claimed that the photo violated the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, the Juvenile (Harmful Publications) Act, 1956 and the Indian Article 292 of the Penal Code (Sale of Obscene Books).
- Shilpa Shetty is one of the contestants on the British reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother 5. She was allegedly the target of racism and bullying by some of her housemates, primarily Jade Goody, Jo O’Meara and Danielle Lloyd . Shilpa was mocked for her Indian accent and was called a “dog” by one contestant. The screening of racial comments prompted media coverage and responses from the British and Indian governments. The show even canceled its eighth season, and many companies even canceled contracts with contestants who were accused of racial discrimination.
