Shivani wanted to be a doctor as a child. One day, when she went to see Devdas (2002) with her family, she developed a strong curiosity about the film’s sets, lighting, costumes and other details and decided to become a film director. She told her mother about her wishes, and her mother convinced her to finish her studies first. When Shivani was a sophomore in college, she bumped into a casting coordinator on the subway home. The coordinator took her phone number and called her to audition for the commercial after she collapsed. She graduated with honors in botany from Delhi University.
