Shock moment drunk Brit & wife hauled off Ryanair flight for ‘hitting crew & spitting at passengers after downing vodka’

A RYANAIR flight to Ibiza had to be diverted after a drunken Brit drank straight vodka and then allegedly assaulted cabin crew and other passengers.

The plane, which was carrying tourists from Manchester to Ibiza, landed in Toulouse, where police pulled the soaked passenger and his wife from the plane.

Video of the attack shows drunken passengers shouting and swearing at French police officers, before attacking a fellow passenger as they escorted him off the flight.

Another Briton on the flight, who asked not to be named, said the pair were seated about 10 rows apart.

He said the man spent the first hour of the flight “guzzling duty free vodka” before arguing with a male cabin crew member and punching him in the face.

As cabin crew tried to restrain the man, wearing a blue T-shirt and baseball cap, he attacked another passenger and spat at the woman, telling her to “give my dick”.

“He played with everyone, he was out of control,” said the witness.

Officials reportedly warned him that the flight would have to be diverted if he didn’t calm down, and he replied: “I don’t give a f***.”

The argument lasted for about 40 minutes until flight FR2626, which left Manchester Airport on time at 5.20pm on Sunday, landed and was taken into custody by 12 French police officers.

In the video, a visibly drunk man who looks to be in his late 20s is being led away as passengers cheer.

After getting off the plane, his partner began harassing another passenger, hitting him and calling him a “paedo.”

The Ryanair flight spent just over an hour and a half on the tarmac at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport before continuing its journey to Ibiza.

Last week, Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary called for fliers to limit themselves to two drinks at airports in a bid to curb the rise in in-flight clutter.

He said: “We don’t want to begrudge people who drink.

“But we don’t let people drink and drive, but we keep putting them on airplanes at 33,000 feet.

“In the old days, people who drank too much would end up passing out or falling asleep.

“But now those passengers are also on pills and powder.

“It’s a mix. You get a lot more aggressive behavior that’s very difficult to manage.”

He added that it was difficult for staff at the gate to identify drunk people before boarding.

He said: “As long as I can get up and stir, it will pass.

“Then when the plane takes off, we see misconduct.”

Ryanair staff have now started carrying out hand baggage checks to prevent passengers on flights to destinations including Ibiza and the Greek islands from smuggling duty-free alcohol on board.

He said: “Before, we only let them take bottles of water on board, not realizing they were full of vodka.

“Now we don’t even let them take them. Ibiza is by far the worst destination for that.”

Travelers have now taken to social media to brag about how to smuggle alcohol into their plans, posting “life hack” videos showing them pouring glasses of wine bought from airport bars into their water bottles, coffee mugs and other containers which they had on hand.

Others filmed themselves filling water or soft drink bottles with drinks they nabbed in the duty free before heading out the gate for their flights.

An AirportsUK spokesman said that any passenger found guilty of disruptive behaviour, whether due to alcohol or other causes, faces heavy fines and up to two years in prison.

The spokesman added that airports have “a wide range of measures in place to monitor and deal with problematic behavior and ensure everyone’s safety”.

“Airports are committed to providing a safe and pleasant travel experience for all passengers and we are pleased that the vast majority of passengers continue to enjoy their journeys responsibly.”

A Ryanair spokesman said: “This flight from Manchester to Ibiza was diverted to Toulouse after a small group of passengers became disruptive to the flight.

“The crew called the police in advance for assistance, who met the plane after landing in Toulouse and disembarked the two passengers before this flight continued to Ibiza.

“We sincerely apologize to passengers for any inconvenience caused as a result of the unruly behavior of these passengers, which was beyond Ryanair’s control. This is now a matter for the local police.”
