dispute
Arrested in prostitution case
In 2014, Shweta was arrested along with a businessman from a hotel in Hyderabad, Telangana in a sexual harassment case during a police raid. According to media sources, Shweta got into prostitution apparently due to wrong career choice and financial constraints. According to media reports, during police interrogation, Shweta said:
I was out of money and had to support my family and other good causes, and after finding all other doors closed, I was encouraged by some to turn to prostitution to make money. But I am not one of the many other actresses who, too, find themselves helpless and with no other options, turning to prostitution for financial security. “
After hearing her statement, many Indian celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Shweta Tiwari and many others came out in support of her. However, she denied making any such statement. she says,
The problem with our society is that whenever I get sympathy, everyone says “Wow”, “Poor girl”, “So sad”, etc. and everyone is rooting for me. But when people understand that they have been carried away by false statements, that a 23-year-old girl can be strong and independent without any sympathy, society feels that she is lying? What’s wrong with me if that’s the news? I can’t force anyone to like or respect me. These occur naturally. What happened was beyond my control. “
During the hearing of her case in a Hyderabad court, her lawyers requested that she be exempted from all charges as there was no relevant evidence against her. On December 5, 2014, a Hyderabad court gave her a clean slate and sent her to the rescue home “Prajwal”. Later, when she was asked about the businessman who was with her in the hotel room, Shweta replied:
Who are these business people in my life? I’m as curious as everyone! So, here’s the mystery: Why haven’t the names of those businessmen arrested “with me” been revealed? Clue: Were there businessmen in that room when I was detained? Think about it. Prove it to me! “
The reporter also asked her, what would she be doing in the hotel if she was not involved in the fraud? She replied that she was here to attend the award ceremony and that her accommodation arrangements had been arranged by the organizers of the award ceremony. She later said in an interview,
Anyway, enough said, enough heard. I had completely forgotten about the entire incident and I ignored those who accepted false statements and encouraged misleading stories without verifying their veracity. I ignored it because this episode didn’t deserve any more attention! “
