  • As a child, Shyam attended Swadhyaya Parivara’s Bal Sanskar Kendra classes every weekend with her sister. He often plays the lead role in Vasant Utsav plays organized by the college.
  • As a student, he was a member of the Rotaract Club. He represented the school in various activities organized by the club.
  • Shyam worked in various jobs during college to help improve his family’s financial situation. He even worked as a salesman in a clothing store, where his boss was impressed with his communication skills.
  • Schaam once purchased an annual subscription to the National Center for the Performing Arts library to immerse himself in film studies. He often had sandwiches and chai for lunch at a nearby stall. In the evening, he attended plays by seeking permission from the director and claiming to be a drama student, a strategy suggested by his friend and playwright Chetan Datar.
  • Due to financial problems, Schaam wrote a letter asking Barry John for a discount or scholarship. To his surprise, he received a reply within 15 days and his minimum registration fee was borne by the family trust of his best friend Manoj Janglani.
