Shyam Sunder Paliwal was born into a family in Rajasthan. His father’s name is Bhanwar Lal Paliwal and mother’s name is Navali Bai. When Shyam was 6 years old, his mother died from a snake bite. He has five brothers and two sisters. He married Anita Paliwal on November 30, 1987. They have two daughters, Kiran and Himanshi, and a son, Rahul. Shyam’s eldest daughter Kiran died of dehydration at the age of 18.

In 2006, a drought hit his village of Piplantri. Due to large-scale mining in his village, there is a lack of water and vegetation. Another common problem in the village is the bad habit of killing girls, resulting in a very low sex ratio in the village. He began his noble cause by planting a Kadam tree (Burflower tree) in memory of his daughter Kiran; as it symbolized noble love. In an interview, when he was asked about his inspiration for working for such a noble cause, he said:
August 21, 2007 was the saddest day of my life. My 16-year-old daughter Kiran came back from school with stomach pain. Although he was taken to the hospital, he could not be rescued. This is a terrible loss. But I decided that my daughter would always be with me. I also decided that everyone in the village should be proud to be the parent of a daughter. “
As soon as he became the mayor of the village, he started the “Kiran Nidhi Yojna”. According to Yojna, every time a girl is born in the village, 111 trees are planted and a fixed deposit of Rs 100 is deposited. 31,000, of which 10,000 was contributed by the girl’s family and the rest was borne by the panchayat and other villagers. Shyam Sunder and the people of his village also cultivate aloe vera and rose plants and make various products from them. This helps create employment opportunities for the people of Piplantri.
He also launched the ‘Swajaldhara Yojana’ scheme to conserve and conserve water and around 1,800 barrages have been constructed in the village. He also promoted the Open Defecation Free India project in his village.

- The 2016 government policy was inspired by Paliwal’s efforts to save the girl child. Dr. Pankaj Gaur, a Rajasthan government official, said in an interview that under the policy, the family received 2,500 rupees when she was born and the same amount on her first birthday. If she completes fifth and eighth grades, the amount will double to Rs 5,000. When girls complete class 12, they get Rs 35,000, making a total of Rs 50,000. “These benefits allow girls to no longer be seen as a burden.”
