Former Bad Boy rapper Moses “Shyne” Barrow shares his thoughts on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ ongoing legal battle.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the premiere of his Hulu documentary, Dear ShyneBarrow says he is praying for “justice” for the people involved.
“First and foremost, pray for the victims,” 46-year-old Barrow tells us. “People love Cassie [Ventura] and whoever else is listed.”
He continues: “We live in a world, at least in democracies, where the rule of law is equal. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I’m praying for justice, I’m praying for the victims. I’m praying for Diddy.”

Speaking specifically about his former mentor, the “Bad Boyz” rapper says he bears no ill will toward Combs, 55, despite spending eight years in prison after being involved in a shootout with him at a New York club in 1991. .
“I hope he can figure out what he needs to do to get through this very challenging time in his life, which is something he has to deal with,” he says. “I wish everyone well. I’m in a place where I don’t need anyone to fail or suffer in order for me to have satisfaction or success.”

Looking at the bigger picture of the legal case, Barrow takes it back to those who were hurt, particularly Ventura, who filed the now-settled lawsuit against Combs in 2023, alleging a decades-long “cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking.”
“I wish everyone well, including Diddy,” adds Barrow. “Cassie has had horrible experiences and there are other people who claim the same. I pray for everyone involved, especially the alleged victims.”

Barrow, who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives, was convicted of first-degree assault in 1999 for a shooting at a New York nightclub that injured three people. He was on the spot with Combs and Jennifer Lopez.
Combs was also charged with the shooting at the time, but claimed during the trial that he shot in self-defense and was acquitted of all charges.
Meanwhile, Barrow was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2001, released in 2009 and then deported back to Belize.
Combs’ team declined PEOPLE’s request for comment when he Dear Shyne the trailer was released in October 2024.
In the Hulu documentary, directed by Marcus A. Clarke, the musician looks back on the rise and fall of his music career and his return to his homeland, where he began his career in politics.
Speaking about the incident and the 2024 raids that led to Combs’ recent arrest, Barrow says in the documentary, “I was absolutely set up to be the culprit. So this was… shocking, but what was shocking wasn’t the truth. It what’s shocking is that it finally came out and people believed it because when I said it, everyone was partying and partying with Diddy while I was left behind to rot in prison. Nobody cared.”

Barrow then revealed that the record executive got in touch after his press conference in September, during which he said Combs had “ruined” his life.
“He held out his hand, and I said, ‘Listen. That’s right. Those are the facts. I wasn’t unkind, I wasn’t mean. I wasn’t going into your other allegations and accusations, but as far as I’m concerned, you know what the facts are,'” he said in the film. “Then you apologized and we moved on, I got better, but I won’t repeat the facts. I will not reconfigure reality. I’m sorry, I’m a political leader, my Integrity is all I have to say based on facts.'”
In the film, Barrow claimed Diddy was making sure they were “on the same page” and recalled telling the mogul, “‘You know we weren’t good. You know you ruined my life. If it wasn’t for you, I’d be walking just like you.'”
He concluded, “So the idea that he and I are like best friends and brothers, and now maybe I’m changing my tune, it’s just not rooted in reality. And then when the Cassie video with Diddy came out … I had to distance myself from it and condemn those actions, and that’s it.”

A spokesman for Combs told PEOPLE since the documentary’s release on Nov. 18: “Mr. Combs categorically denies Mr. Barrow’s allegations, including any suggestion that he orchestrated Mr. Barrow’s ‘fall’ or ‘victimized’ him by directing witnesses to testify against him. unequivocally false.
“Mr. Combs has been cleared of all charges related to the 1999 New York club incident and has consistently maintained his innocence,” the statement continued. “He cannot accept or condone any characterization of his actions as ‘demonic’ or malevolent.”
The spokesman added: “Mr. Combs appreciates the path Mr. Barrow has taken and wishes him continued success. Unfortunately, Mr. Barrow has decided to reconsider these allegations. Mr. Combs believes that responsible journalism will weigh both established legal outcomes and positive, long-standing Mr. Combs’ support of those he worked with.”
