Siamese Rescue Kitten Helps Her Brother with Visual Impairments Navigate California Shelter

Siblings S’more and Graham Cracker kittens are named after the famous duo for a reason.

Rescue Siamese cats are inseparable. The duo arrived at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., on Dec. 19 via a rescue transport from one of Helen Woodward’s shelter partners.

Although the kittens were only a few weeks old when they arrived at Helen Woodward, one of the cats was “extremely impaired from untreated neonatal disease”.

S’more has vision problems due to untreated corneal ulcerations he received early in life. Ulcerations and conjunctivitis, which have since been treated, have left the kitten with severe blurring and scarring of the eyes.

The staff at Helen Woodward are used to seeing young animals initially struggle with the transition to shelter life, but S’more is calm and composed after moving into Helen Woodward.

The Savior quickly realized that S’more was gaining the trust of his sighted sister, Graham Cracker, who always stayed by her brother’s side to help him navigate the world.

In Helen Woodward, Graham Cracker bravely explores new areas and first meets new people, then S’more quickly follows. So the kittens befriended the veterinary technicians at Helen Woodward, and now the cats are ready to use their social skills to win over an adopter.

“The names definitely fit,” Breanne Sneddon, animal health supervisor at Helen Woodward, said in a statement. “They’re sweet as can be and they’ve definitely been through a lot together in their short lives. Cats are usually terrified just from being transported such long distances, never mind the limited vision S’more is dealing with. You can tell she’s a bond between them created by love and need.”

Understandably, Helen Woodward adopts the duo as a bonded pair so the kittens don’t get separated. S’more and Graham, who have spent the past few weeks growing up and relaxing at Helen Woodward’s, will be available for adoption from February 2nd.

Helen Woodward is looking for an adopter to make their house safe for S’more and is willing to keep their furniture in the same place after S’more learns the ways of his new home. S’more does not require further eye treatment. He and his sister are just looking for a loving home where they can grow up together.
