For Australian actress Sisi Stringer, who had always wanted to play the main role in the Peacock television series “Vampire Academy,” it was a childhood dream realised. “I read the books when I was a teenager,” Stringer, 25, referred to the Richelle Mead book series on which the show is based.
When I was younger, I read my sister’s books since she was so into them. I truly like it. When I messaged my sister after getting the call that I got the part, she responded with a paragraph of capital letters and nonsense. She was so ecstatic that she was unable to construct complete phrases. She sent a voice message in which she screamed as well. That most certainly matched.
“Vampire Academy,” which makes its Peacock debut on Thursday, Sept. 15, is “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Gossip Girl” combined. It is set in a world where there are various varieties of vampires and a rigid social class system, and it was created by Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre (both renowned for “The Vampire Diaries”).
Rose Hathaway (Stringer) is a Guardian, a half-vampire who serves as the elite royal vampires’ bodyguard and puts in a lot of effort to defend their civilization from Strigoi (the malicious types of vampires). Lissa Dragomir, her best friend and the leader of their exclusive society, is a Royal vampire played by Daniela Nieves. Additionally complicating matters is Rose’s unrequited love for fellow Guardian Dimitri Belikov (Kieron Moore).
Because female relationship isn’t frequently the focus of a novel, Stringer said, “I love exploring the beauty and the soulfulness of female friendship.”
“The major relationship you’re focusing on, especially in dramatic programmes, is usually a love interest. The two young women at the centre of this movie, however, have a close bond, and you get to observe them navigating social strata together as they go about their daily lives. So it’s awesome to see that. I really believe that you can share a soulmate regardless of whether you’re engaged in a relationship. Additionally, Rose and Lissa are true soul mates.
“I watched the movie, and I was disappointed when they stopped producing it. Therefore, I’m delighted we’re doing this now as a series because it will give us more time to develop and fully explore all the many characters, Stringer added. “As a fan, it’s awesome to have the chance to take part in that.”
The “Mortal Kombat” movie from 2021 is where Stringer is best known, yet this is her debut TV programme.
