Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Says Marriage to Kody Could Work Only If They’re ‘Struck by Lightning’ (Exclusive)

Janelle Brown plans to spend her birthday with ex Kody Brown despite their feud.

In PEOPLE’s sneak peek of Sunday’s episode Sister wivesJanelle, 54, explains why she wanted to spend her big day with Kody, 54, amid their split.

“You know, before Kody and I had our big fight, we got to a point where we weren’t connecting and I was really frustrated with him for not bothering to see [daughter] Savanah,” she says. “But on a very superficial level, Kody and I can go hang out and have a good time if I just separate and clean up all the other stuff. So when he called them and said, ‘Yeah, hey, that’s better than staying home and watching TV.'”

Christine, who announced she was splitting from Kody in November 2021, was surprised by Janelle’s decision to celebrate with Kody, saying: “I think they’re an interesting place. A really interesting place in a relationship.”

“She loves him too, still wants to be with him as far as I know. I know things are difficult,” she adds. “I don’t know if Kody has worked things out with his kids and I think most of our kids are pretty frustrated with him right now.”

In the confessional, Janelle also questions her future with Kody, explaining, “I really don’t foresee Kody and I working our relationship out at this point.”

“I always have to be open to the possibility that somehow lightning will strike us and everything will be happily ever after,” she shares. “But I’m also a realist and I know it doesn’t look good.”

Christine makes it clear that she is always in Janelle’s corner and recalls a conversation she had with Janelle’s daughter, Maddie Brown Brush.

“I said to Maddie, I mean, ‘Look, your mom just needs to be happy. Anything that can make your mom happy, that’s what I’ll support you doing,” she explains. “If she wants to stay, I will fully support her staying in Flagstaff. I will support her staying with Kody, whatever she wants to do I will. No problem.”

Despite admitting that their last interaction was the “worst fight” they’ve ever had, she’s still hopeful that things will be peaceful during her birthday celebrations.

“I don’t want any fight,” she says. “I just want to take it easy, have fun and celebrate the day.”
