Kody Brown made a pact in his marriage to Robyn Brown years ago that wasn’t extended to all of his wives.
“Robyn and I agreed that if we weren’t in love, we wouldn’t take each other out,” Kody, 54, said during Sunday’s Sister wives: one on one special, hosted by Sukanya Krishnan. – That we will free each other.
When Sukanya asked him if he had made “the same covenant” with his first wife Meri Brown, the Brown family patriarch said, “No, no.”
“I remember after Robyn and I made that deal, I went to the other women and said I had this deal with Robyn,” he recalled. “They were even frustrated because, like anyone who wants to leave, you’re free to leave. And that even pissed off Meri.”

Meri, 52, spoke to Sukanya about Kody’s “inactivity” in their marriage. While she supported the commitment to keep their marriage together, Meri noted that Kody is just “sweet to Robyn.”
Describing the difference between her relationship with Kody compared to his with Robyn, she said her now-ex-husband had “fallen out of love” with her. “I’m just basing it on that scene where he said to her, ‘If I ever fall out of love with you, don’t bother me,’ or whatever he said,” she explained.

“He’s sitting here telling Robyn, ‘That’s the deal you and I made, that if I ever feel that way, I won’t keep you in this place.’ Their agreement about, you know, their sacred alliance,” she said. “I say, ‘Then why didn’t you respect me enough as a human being?'”
Kody’s marriages to Meri, Christine Brown and Janelle Brown fell apart within 14 months. Although he is now only married to Robyn, the couple – who tied the knot in 2014 – have experienced many challenges in their relationship following his three divorces.
Robyn, 45, told Sukanya during Sunday’s special that Kody is “trying” to sabotage their relationship and that she has to “stop him all the time.”

“He fights with me [over] stupid things,” she said through tears. “We’re in different places. We are in different places because of the bomb that exploded on our family. And like, I’m in a big place of grief and he’s angry. He just wants to find anything, you know? And I say, ‘No, I can’t feel that way.'”
Admitting that I “sabotaged myself a little bit … out of frustration and anger,” Kody also admitted that he intentionally hurt his marriage to Robyn because he wanted to “punish” himself. He even considered leaving Robyn as a way to further punish himself.
“I thought about myself leaving Robyn and having another lover, looking at that lover and saying, ‘I don’t love you. I’m in love with another woman. I’m in love with the woman I left because I was too much crap to manage the relationship,'” he explained. “It was just anger and I’m embarrassed. So you feel ashamed and then you deny yourself. It’s like, just bad behavior.”
Kody added, “A lot of dark winds were going through me. A lot of hell, a lot of temptation, which would be destructive to my relationship with Robyn. So I was dealing with a lot of anger and she would be frustrated. My anger was a diversion. It was frightening.”
