Sister Wives’ Kody Brown Vows to ‘Always Have a Relationship’ with Meri, Who Can ‘Call Me If She Ever Needs Anything’

Kody Brown hopes he can stay on friendly terms with ex Meri Brown.

The Sister wives star, 54, tells PEOPLE he plans to be a part of Mera’s life despite the couple confirming they are splitting in December 2022.

“The development of everything that has happened with Meri and I over the past 20 years has affected where we have come here,” he explains of their decision to remain friends. “The permanent separation of her and I was really just what I thought was a very gentle negotiation of where we were — what our personalities were and what we could and couldn’t give each other.”

Kody adds that an “honest assessment” of their relationship made them aware that they “need to move forward without being married.”

“But I think knowing that brought us to a place where we can be friends again,” he confirms. “I believe Meri and I are moving forward very quickly – I hope – with love and grace and forgiveness and mercy to a place where I want her to feel free to call on me if she ever needs anything.”

He also says, “I want to have that dialogue between her and me [that is] open. She and Robyn are still, I think, close. He still wants to come see the kids. We will always have a relationship that I hope at least [some] kind friendship.”
