Sister Wives’ Meri Brown Was ‘Disappointed’ by Family Collapse: ‘Didn’t Ever See This Coming’ (Exclusive)

Meri Brown contemplates breaking up her polygamous family within 14 months.

The Sister wives star, 52, tells PEOPLE that she is “very sad about what happened with the family” after three of Kody Brown’s marriages ended, including hers to the family patriarch.

“It’s very disappointing to me,” she says. “And also, I understand that we are all unique individuals and that we want the best for ourselves. And if what’s best for us isn’t within the same family structure that we’ve built and had for so long, it is what it is, and I just want everyone to be happy where they are.”

She added: “So no, I never saw this coming. I really didn’t. But I really want everyone to be in a peaceful place with themselves.”

Christine Brown announced that she was separating from Kody in November 2021 after almost 26 years. She was the first of Kody’s four wives to leave their polygamous arrangement. A year after her departure, Kody’s splits with first wife Meri and second wife Janelle Brown were confirmed. He is currently married only to his fourth wife, Robyn Brown.

Meri admits she was surprised her marriage was coming to an end, saying: “It’s not something I’ve ever seen happen in my marriage, especially when we got married 33 years ago.”

“You don’t think that will ever happen,” she continued. “And while we were building a family, you just don’t think what’s going to happen is going to happen. you don’t know You have no idea.”

The TLC star notes that she “gave it 100 percent” before announcing her split from Kody in December 2022, saying, “I did everything I could. And if I had left earlier, I would always have the question in my head, did I do everything I could? But I’m very confident knowing I did everything I could, and I’m very at peace with when it happened and how it all played out.”

Despite the end of the marriage, the reality star says she would do it all over again.

“There are definitely things in the last three decades that I would have done differently, different conversations that I would have had. But I mean, hindsight is 20/20, right?” she says. “You don’t know until you know, and there’s a lot of things that I didn’t know, Kody didn’t know, all of us didn’t know 20 years ago, 30 years ago.”

She continues, “So I think my family and the life I’ve lived and all the experiences I’ve had have only contributed to who I am now, so I have no regrets at all.”
