After making waves wearing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress to the 2022 Met Gala, the SKIMS founder, 43, created her own version of the dress as part of a new collaboration with Swarovski.

The Swarovski x SKIMS collaboration launched on Tuesday and is a more glamorous take on traditional wardrobe essentials such as bodysuits and loungewear.

One of the already sold-out pieces included is a long, curve-hugging slip dress that’s made of silk fabric and features “thoughtfully placed Swarovski crystals,” according to the official description. It comes in three colors, and there’s no word yet on whether there will be restocks of the obviously popular piece. Before the exclusive collection was released, Swarovski creative director Giovanna Engelbert praised the reality TV star’s commitment to the collaboration.

“Ever since I became creative director of Swarovski, I’ve wanted to work with Skims, rooted in the imagination of crystal turned into skin. We’ve worked with Kim to create body jewelry and more, which can be styled in so many ways and it truly unlocks the glamor in all of us. I can’t wait to show the whole collection soon,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Kardashian echoed the same sentiments in a behind-the-scenes Instagram video where she shared that she’s “always been a crystal girl.”

Marilyn Monroe’s estate says the icon would have approved of Kim Kardashian’s dress-down moment at the Met Gala

The original dress she famously wore in 1962 while singing for then-President John F. Kennedy at a Madison Square Garden fundraiser was designed by Jean Louis. The dress originally cost $12,000 and was purchased by Ripley’s Believe It or Not at auction in 2016 for $4.8 million.

The fashion mogul revealed how she wore the dress during an episode The Kardashians.

“I flew all the way to Florida to try on the Marilyn dress at Ripley’s. They wouldn’t let me wear this dress, they wouldn’t even let me try it on until Kris Jenner called… And I said, ‘Please mom, if you do this , I will marry you.’ I would do anything,” she recalled.

Ripley’s took to Instagram to share a video of Kardashian trying on the dress and talked about the detail that went into preserving it.

“Great care has been taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history,” read the title of their post. “With input from clothing conservators, appraisers and archivists, the condition of the garment was a top priority. Believe it or not! no alterations were to be made to the dress, and Kim even changed into a replica after the red carpet!”
