Sofia Coppola Says She Considered Raffling Off Pickleball with Jacob Elordi to ‘Raise Money’ for Priscilla

Sofia Coppola and her Priscilla the film crew really had a blast during the filming of her Priscilla Presley biopic.

In his interview with The The Wall Street JournalThe 52-year-old director pointed out that it was one of her favorite memories from the shoot Priscilla was when the film’s production “built a pickleball court on our set, and everyone started playing at lunch, and we ended up having a big tournament.”

“[Jacob Elordi] can play pickleball,” Coppola said when asked if the 26-year-old actor, who plays Elvis Presley in the new film, likes the sport.

“Our budget was always tight, low, and I thought, ‘I wonder if I could pull off a game of pileball with Jacob to raise money for another day of shooting,'” she added. “We didn’t, but he was a good sport. He pleased me, even though he’s not an enthusiast. I think that connects him with, like, Malibu moms.”

Euphoria star Elordi plays Elvis opposite Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Presley. The film is based on the memoirs of 78-year-old Priscilla from 1985 Elvis and mewhich reshapes the legendary couple’s love story from her perspective.

Coppola recently told PEOPLE that she “was very nervous” about meeting Priscilla as she prepared to shoot the new film. “[Priscilla] let me interview her and ask her questions,” she said in Chanel i W a dinner organized by the magazine celebrating her new book, Sofia Coppola Archive. “And she was very, very sweet. But I was nervous — I thought, this is my chance to talk about the subject, which I’ve never done before.”

“She was very nice and let me call her frequently as a follow-up, so when I was going through my notes I could keep calling her,” Coppola said. “When I read the book I was very surprised that she went to high school and lived in Elvis’ house.”

Priscilla had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in September, where Spaeny, 25, won the festival’s best actress award. The film comes a year after director Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 film Elviswhich starred Austin Butler as a musician and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla in a story that also focused on Tom Hanks as Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Priscilla opens in theaters on November 3.
