Sofía Vergara Says She Jokingly Reminds Ed O'Neill 'Don't Die' So They Can Make a Modern Family 'Sequel' One Day

Sofia Vergara has some long-term plans when it comes to the future Modern family.

Four years after the end of the beloved series, the actress said she would “die” to return to the set with her fictional family. However, she knows it’s still too early for the Pritchett, Dunphy and Tucker families to return. But Vergara, 52, has been constantly joking with her former on-screen husband, Ed O’Neill, about a possible sequel to the series, which ran for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020.

Vergara said Diversity that after seeing O’Neill, 78, d Trimmedshe told him, “You look f—ing old,” before revealing that his age was a talking point for the show.

“I always joke with him, ‘Ed, don’t die. Because if we’re doing a sequel, it’s going to take a while, and you’re the oldest of us. You can’t be dead!'” Vergara said of teasing the actor who played Jay Pritchett, the husband of her character Gloria Pritchett.

However, she noted that the story will influence whether or not she joins. “I’m thinking creatively for myself, I’d like to know what’s going on with Haley. I want to see her career back and those things and her creativity, and I want her to be able to do both.”

Hyland, 33, added that she would like to see her character do what her on-screen mother Claire (Julie Bowen) “set out to do and did as an amazing mother as well as a businesswoman and executive.”
