Sonia Mendia

Sonia Mendhiya is an Indian cricketer, known for playing in the ICC Under-19 India women’s team that won the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa. She is a right-handed batsman and right-arm bases-breaking bowler.

Sonia Rajpal Mendhiya was born on Saturday, March 20, 2004 in Brahmanwas, Rohtak (18 years old; as of 2022). Her mother said in an interview that she used to take Sonia to work, where she would often play with plastic balls with the children. When she returned home, she often played with the neighborhood children with her wooden Tubby. Growing up, she started taking cricket seriously. At first, her mother refused to let her play, but Sonia was very stubborn and her mother had to agree. Her neighbors also encouraged her to take up cricket after noticing her talent. She started playing cricket when she was thirteen. She received training from Shri Ram Academy, Jhajjar Road, Rohtak. She used to travel alone in a rickshaw for 20-25 kilometers from the village to the school. Her mother spoke about the incident in an interview and said:

Only two or three girls, including Shafali Verma, ever practiced at the academy. We have never stopped her from playing cricket since then. My daughter’s dream was to play cricket and her dream came true. We have high hopes from him and hope he can go far for the Indian team. “
