This isn’t the first time Sony has been criticized for refusing to jump on the cross-platform gaming train. The company has taken the boycott of co-op survival game Fortnite to a ridiculous level by blocking players with accounts previously used on PS4 from playing the game on Nintendo Switch. Despite being heavily criticized by the gaming community, Sony has been uncompromising when it comes to gaming. Fallout 76.

Speaking to GameStar (via Game Rant ), Bethesda director Todd Howard said there are currently no plans to add cross-platform multiplayer to the game. Fallout 76,explain”We’d love to do that, but right now it’s not possible,” and add, “Sony hasn’t been as helpful as we’d hoped.It appears that some game developers are just as annoyed by Sony’s stance as gamers, though it remains to be seen whether this extra pressure will convince Sony to change its views on cross-platform gaming.
While the companies behind consoles usually try to beat the competition with exclusive games and special features, Microsoft and Nintendo have been actively working together to allow for cross-platform play, e.g. my world and fortnite. This is a very consumer-friendly initiative as gamer friends often have different consoles at home but still want to play together on their platform of choice. Ultimately, it’s just another way to make multiplayer games appealing to more people, a win-win move for gaming companies – so why is Sony so resistant to it?
Former Sony Online exec John Smedley has expressed frustration over Sony’s refusal to let PS4 fortnite Players join cross-platform parties,”The reason stated internally was money.They don’t like people buying stuff on Xbox and using it on PlayStation” As Smedley admitted, it was a “stupid reason”, which might actually have the unintended effect of discouraging gamers from buying a PS4. Let’s hope Sony starts to figure out why soon.
