A car accident in South Paris Maine occurred on July 7, 2023, Friday evening on Park Street (Route 26) around 5:20 p.m. At the time of the tragic accident, Diana Paola Berriel Lopez, Dafne Isabel Sanchez Cruz and Julian Ernesto Marin Munson were employed at a summer camp in Oxford.

According to a press release from Paris Police Chief Michael Dailey, Lopez was driving a 1996 Toyota Tercel, with Cruz in the front seat and Munzon in the back seat. Three people who tragically died in a collision between two vehicles in southern Paris have been identified.

An initial crash investigation revealed that Lopez was traveling southbound on Park Street when she lost control of her vehicle. That caused the car to spin, cross the center line and collide with the passenger side of a 2013 Toyota RAV4 driven by Tammy Hinckley, 52, of Bethel.

Despite Hinckley’s best efforts to avoid the collision, she was unable to do so. She was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway and later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she is being treated for serious, non-life-threatening injuries, Chief Dailey said.

The victims have been named as Diana Paola Berriel Lopez, 22, of Puebla, Mexico; Dafne Isabel Sanchez Cruz, 21, of Mexico City, Mexico; and Julian Ernesto Marin Munzon, 22, of Barranquilla, Colombia.

The Paris Police Department, along with an accident reconstructionist from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, is currently investigating the cause of Lopez losing control of the Toyota Tercel.

Per standard protocol for motor vehicle fatalities in Maine, toxicology testing is underway for all drivers involved, with results expected in the coming weeks. In addition, a comprehensive crash reconstruction report will be completed once all necessary information has been gathered, although this will require additional time.
