Southern Charm: Shep’s Anger Flares at Taylor as He Accuses Her of ‘Poking the Bear’ (Exclusive)

A weekend getaway is nerve-wracking Southern charm.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek of Thursday’s episode, Shep Rose struggles to contain his anger as he claims his ex-girlfriend Taylor Ann Green is deliberately trying to piss him off.

After losing in a ping pong match, the 43-year-old Average expectations the author believes that the ex encourages him by congratulating the winner of the game in front of him.

“Don’t… with me, Taylor,” he warns.

“I’m not, Shep,” replies the sales rep, 29.

He insists, “Don’t do that,” to which Taylor calls him out, saying, “The way you’re treating me right now is very, like, jealous and controlling.”

“What? You enjoyed the fact that I lost and then you rubbed it in my face,” Shep retorts to his ex, whom he dated from 2020 to 2022.

“I didn’t enjoy that fact,” Taylor defends herself. “I was congratulating someone on winning a game.”

As things heat up between the exes, Austen Kroll encourages Shep to calm down, reminding him, “It’s ping pong, dude. It’s table tennis.” (Austen’s instinct to jump to Taylor’s defense certainly didn’t help put Shep at ease, given his barely suppressed resentment of Austen over her code-breaking brotherly relationship with Taylor.)

Taylor then tells her ex, who is known for struggling with monogamy and being overly competitive, “Shep, you don’t like to lose.”

“Yeah, you’re a god…right, Taylor,” Shep retorts. “And you fucking with me. Are you enjoying it? Do you like poking the bear?”

But Taylor has the last word, sharply asking Shep, “Do you like cheating on me?”

Season 9 of the hit Bravo series marks the first time Taylor and Shep have reunited on screen since their July 2022 breakup.

Taylor spoke to PEOPLE about the mix of emotions she experienced when she first saw her ex — an encounter that included yelling at Shep’s best friend Craig Conover for not bringing up Shep’s alleged infidelity.

“It was the first time we’d seen each other in a while – it’s probably been a few months – and obviously I’ve learned some things in the meantime and it was quite upsetting,” she said. “I wanted to go in there just calm, cool and collected, and maybe sad for him, but my emotions got the better of me.”

The drama has been steadily increasing since Shep found out that Austen confirmed that Taylor kissed him shortly after their breakup.

The TropHop beer founder, 36, put the kiss down to “bad judgement” and claimed it was “a moment in time, like, so much confusion for both of us” when Austen himself was “weak”.

Shep struggled to believe his longtime friend’s story, wondering, “How does a kiss just end in a kiss? I just don’t see? Where is the border? That’s my question.”

For her part, Taylor admitted she felt “like s—” for following Austen’s lead and lying about the kiss for months, but when she also not only refused to apologize to Shep, but repeated his past infidelity.

Reminding Shep that they were no longer together when the kiss happened, she said that she and Austen were just “two single people who were in a very vulnerable position”.
