Updated by Patrick Mocella on November 4, 2020: Squidward is one of the most grumpy people ever seen in a children’s cartoon. Although he has brief moments of happiness, his default state is lack of happiness. However, one can’t blame him for that as he works with an extremely greedy crab and his neighbor/colleague is a nasty positive person who doesn’t know personal space what does it mean. No one can blame him for his state of mind. In everyday life, we all feel like Squidward at times. To deal with feelings of inadequacy, frustration, and anger, here are some fan favorite Squidward quotes.
“Imagine him naked. Omg, he’s hot!”
People will tell you that a common tactic to reduce stress you can have in a stressful situation is to imagine that the people looking at you are naked. In fact, it doesn’t work, especially when you see people who seem more attractive than you.
This happened to Squidward when he tried to imagine his opponent, Squaliam Fancissen, naked to help him calm down. To his horror, he found that he was really hot. Probably the mustache.
“Come on, hit me hard.”
Imagine this; Your boss shows up at your desk with a stack of papers that you swear you’ve finished but clearly aren’t done because you have to start over. In response, you did the only reasonable thing; Give your colleague a baseball bat and you ask them to hit you as hard as they can.
Or even better, because Squidward is a retail employee; you have a customer asking you the world’s dumbest question about any particular item. Basically, there are times in your life when you just want someone to hit you with a stick.
“I don’t have a soul.”
There are many times in our lives that we do things that we are not proud of. No matter how small or big, no one is without sin. With that in mind, you can approach it in two ways. Either you feel ashamed and beg for forgiveness, or you simply think you have no soul. In this quote, Squidward chose the second option.
Of course, there’s a fan theory that explains how Squidward really lacks a soul.
“What will happen? Am I going to explode?”
There is a dish for everyone when celebrating victories in life or facing adversity. A friend or family member might tell you to slow down as food enters your stomach, and you might scold them with a similar comment Squidward made about SpongeBob.
There are joys that come from delicious food that cannot be described in words but few understand. Squidward also understood this after eating crab cakes.
“What are those Neanderthals doing? Can’t they see I’m spoiling myself?”
Neighbors can be helpful friends, neutral or annoying life forms that stress everyone out. Unfortunately, Squidward’s neighbors are SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick.
When you’re ready to treat yourself after a long day at work, you’re often interrupted by the last person in the world who wants to talk in relaxation mode. If you really want to relax, it’s best to turn off your phone.
“I order, you cook. Customers take the food. We did it for 40 years and then died.”
With the demands of work increasing and the separation between work life and home life less and less, many millennials have a lot of work-related worries. Lower wages also lead many to believe that they will never feel financially stable and will work until lunch on the day of their death.
For this reason, many people agree with this line of Squidward. He talks about the mundane and repetitive nature of everyday life, and how it feels to work to survive and live to work.
“Too bad it didn’t kill me.”
Although most people don’t really want to die, people still mutter “Kill me” from time to time. This is especially common in situations where things could be worse than they really are.
If a person has ever experienced serious injury, or felt devastated or shocked to the point of death, then Squidward’s quote certainly applies.
“Oh, days like this make me wish I could go to college.”
For many years, college was seen as the only path to a successful life. This has begun to change in recent years, with more and more people choosing to take trade skills courses and study at specific schools. The important thing is to have a way to go, whatever that path may be.
However, some people take this saying and interpret it to mean that a person doesn’t need to do anything to try to improve himself. These people are often stuck in service industries that don’t pay well and don’t offer them the benefits and protections they deserve. Surely these people will agree with this statement, but so will anyone else who thinks they have chosen the wrong path in life!
“That’s my cheese. It’s supposed to smell like kelp brain!”
Everyone has been shocked by the stupidity and lack of culture of the people around. This is exactly how Squidward feels when SpongeBob throws away his cheese because of the bad smell.
Any cheese lover will understand the distaste for others to think that cheese has gone bad due to the smell.
“I hate you.”
Everyone is at one point or another in a situation where they get really upset with the people around them.
Whether in the workplace, where one feels surrounded by people with a lower IQ, or at home, where one feels one’s individuality is unappreciated or unrecognized, surely At some point in life people will think “I hate all of you”.
“Well, this isn’t the first time you’ve ruined things.”
SpongeBob and Patrick continue to disrupt Squidward’s plans. Even though he has feelings for them, he can’t help but feel frustrated with them because they have no boundaries. In a way, Patrick and SpongeBob were like Squidward’s children, constantly rushing to his side.
While Squidward’s failures aren’t always their fault, he’s sure to be quick to blame them for his shortcomings. This is natural, since people often blame others. Everyone has someone or something standing in their way, so everyone can relate to this quote.
“Again, please. When I’m not working.”
This statement is especially relevant for workers in the service industry. These workers deal with a large number of people coming and going. While they are politely asked and often invited to come back again, there are certainly some customers who don’t want to see them again.
This also applies to professionals dealing with clients they are not particularly interested in. Sometimes, people wish they could tell them to go away. Unfortunately, we can’t all be as brave as Squidward!
“Wake me up when I care.”
Squidward has no patience for nonsense. When he feels that what others say has no value, he is quick to let people know it and often turns them off.
Everyone is forced to listen to other people say things they don’t care about at times. Whether it’s attending a staff meeting or hearing a story from an acquaintance, sometimes people just want to silence someone.
“Fortunately, I have enough talent for all of you.”
Squidward is not a humble character. Characters have the idea of enjoying rights, often self-assessing their own talents. Although Squidward is not always equipped to back up his claims, many will appreciate his confidence.
Everyone is good at something, so one usually has to take the lead in this situation. So, like Squidward, do people’s work for them, and let them know you’re appreciated!
“I might as well sleep for a hundred years or so.”
There are always days when people just don’t feel motivated to get out of bed. Sleeping for a hundred years is the best way to quickly overcome the chaos, stress or difficulties of life.
Don’t worry Squidward, you’re not alone. Everyone feels overwhelmed at times.
