dispute

Srabani Nanda made angry remarks to the event officials after the final of the 200m dash during the 61st National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Chennai in June 2022. She finished fourth in the competition and claimed the event was unprofessionally managed and poorly coordinated. She said that the day before the 200-meter final, the start time of the competition was changed from 5:10 pm to 6:40 pm. When she arrived at the call room, the game start time had been changed again to 6:10 p.m. Due to the sudden time change, she lost time to warm up before the game. Also, in the call room, her lane changed from 4 to 6; however, when she got to the track, it changed to 4 again. Each lane requires a different strategy, she said, and she gets frustrated with the frequent changes. Furthermore, instead of mentioning Srabani’s name as an Olympian, the announcer announced the name of Seema Das as an Olympian, who had never even qualified for the Olympics. Srabani discussed these issues in an interview with reporters and said:

I was one of two or three female athletes to qualify for the Olympics in individual events. After all your hard work, when this happens minutes before a game, it affects you mentally. “

A technical officer for the event dismissed her claims, saying:

Nothing, just changed the sticker. What does it matter? We will apply the correct stickers later. ”
