Sri Siddheshwar Swami (1941-2023) was an Indian spiritual leader. He was a senior Lingayat and seer of Vijayapura Sri Jnanayogashrama, Bijapur ashram in Karnataka, passed away on January 2, 2023 after a long illness.

Sri Siddheshwar Swami was born on Friday, October 24, 1941, in Bijjaragi, Vijayapur district, Karnataka (died at the age of 81 ). His zodiac sign is Scorpio. When he was studying in fourth grade at a local school in his hometown, he met spiritual leader Sri Mallikarjuna Swamiji, who immediately recognized Siddhiva’s spiritual soul. After this, Malikajuna started taking Siddhisiva to the places where he wanted to preach.
However, he ensured that formal education in Sideshwar continued in parallel. He graduated from Karnataka University. Later, he received his Master of Philosophy degree from Kolhapur University in Maharashtra.

He was born into an ordinary peasant family. His father’s name is Ogeppagouda Siddhagonda Patil and mother’s name is Sangamma Ogeppagouda Patil.

Swamiji received his spiritual calling at the age of 14, after which he became a disciple of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamiji.
He founded Jnanayogashrama in Vijayapura, Karnataka. He preached jnana yoga (also known as jnana yoga), one of the three classical paths to liberation. The other two are Karma Yoga (the path of action) and Bhakti Yoga (the path of loving devotion to a personal God). Jnana Yoga is a spiritual practice that pursues knowledge through questions such as “Who am I and what am I?” His lectures featured ideologies preached by Sri Basaveshwara and other Sharanas, the three Acharyas of Indian philosophy, Buddhism, Jainism and Sufism .

Sri Siddheshwar Swami passed away at 6:05 pm on January 2, 2023, after a long illness due to age-related ailments. His last rites were performed at the Ashram as per his wishes recorded on Guru Purnima Day 2014. According to an official notification, the Karnataka government has decided to give Swamiji a state funeral. Previously, he suffered multiple fractures after falling at a believer’s home, but he later fully recovered. He was confined to a wheelchair for several weeks before his death and refused medical treatment. He only takes painkillers. His body was kept at the ashram for public viewing until 4:30 a.m. on January 3, 2022, after which it was moved to the Sainik School premises for his devotees to pay their respects. Later, his body was brought back to the monastery for the last rites. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his last respects through a tweet.

- He gave pravachans (religious talks) in Kannada, English, Marathi, Hindi and Sanskrit.
- Swamiji wrote several books on the Upanishads, Gita, Sarana philosophy and spirituality in general. After graduation at the age of 19, Sri Siddheshwar Swami wrote the book “Siddantha Shiromani” under the guidance of Sri Mallikarjun Swamiji. Some of his major books are God, World and Soul: Reflections on the Word (Vachanas) (2021), Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras (2020), Kathamrutha (2019), Stories Told by Sri Sidheshwara Swamiji” (2014), “Ananda Yoga” (2009), and Allamaprabhu ‘s Vachana Nirvachana (1997).
- He is often called “Nadedado Narayan” (the walking god of North Karnataka) and is affectionately known as Buddiji.
- In 2018, Siddheshwar Swamiji of Vijaypur wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi refusing to accept the Padma Shri awarded to him. The letter stated,
I don’t need a title, I am a Sanyaxi. “
