Sridevi was born on August 13, 1963 in Meenampatti, Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, India as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan. In 2013, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India and received the award from the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. She is known for her acting skills and has received numerous prestigious awards for her contributions to the film industry. During her acting career, she has worked with many popular actors like Jeetendra, Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, etc.

Sridevi belongs to the OBC (Naidu Community and Nadars) caste and was born to lawyers Ayyapan Yanger and Rajeswari Yanger. She has two stepbrothers Anand and Satish and a sister Rasha.

There were reports that Janhvi was born out of wedlock; however, Boney Kapoor later denied such claims in an interview. Speaking about this in an interview, Boney Kapoor said:
My second marriage, my marriage to Sri (happened in Shirdi). We got married on June 2nd. We exchanged vows, stayed there for one night, and didn’t find out she was pregnant until January and we had no choice but to get married publicly. The incident happened on June 2 in Shirdi. (But), publicly, we only got married in January (1997). That’s why some scribes still write that she (Janhvi) was born before marriage, and so on. “
Profession
In 1967, at the age of 4, she made her screen debut, playing the young Lord Muruga in the Tamil film Thunaivan. However, she came to attention after playing the role of Sivaji Ganesan’s adopted daughter in the film Babu (1971). Her performance as a child artist in the Malayalam film Poompatta (1971) also brought her immense fame and she won the Kerala State Film Awards in the Best Child Artist category. As a child artist, she did many famous films in different languages such as Nam Naadu (Tamil, 1969), Maa Nanna Nirdoshi (Telugu, 1970), Badi Panthulu (Telugu, 1972 Years), Vasantha Maaligai (Tamil, 1972), Prarthanai (Tamil, 1973), Bhakta Kumbala (Kannada, 1974), Julie (Hindi, 1975 years) etc. In 1979, she made her acting debut with the Bollywood film “Solva Sawan”. After her marriage, she took a break from films for about 6 years and returned in 2004 with the Hindi television series Malini Iyer. In 2005, she served as a judge on the TV show Kaboom. In 2008, she started working as a fashion model and took on a number of modeling assignments. In 2009, she appeared on Salman Khan’s popular reality game show 10 Ka Dum along with her husband Boney Kapoor. In the same year, she appeared as a Showstopper at HDIL Couture Week 2009 for designers such as Queenie Dhody, Neeta Lulla and Priya-Chintan. In 2012, she appeared on the Indian television talk show Satyaev Jayate hosted by Aamir Khan. On February 24, 2018, Sridevi died of accidental drowning in the bathtub of her hotel room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She was there along with husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor to attend the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwa.

Boney Kapoor, who was initially considered the prime suspect in Sridevi’s death, had spoken about Sridevi’s health in interviews. He revealed that she used to follow a strict diet in order to appear on screen. He added that Sridevi had fainted several times and actor Nagarjuna had brought it to his attention and doctors diagnosed her with hypotension. He mentioned that even when dining out, she would choose salt-free food. Boney Kapoor said Sridevi’s death was not a natural death but an accident. Boney Kapoor said,
She wants to make sure she stays in good shape so she looks good on screen. She has been unconscious a few times since she married me and the doctor keeps saying she has low blood pressure. Unfortunately. Later, when she died. Nagarjuna came home to express his condolences and he told me that during one of her films she went on a crash diet again and that’s how she fell in the bathroom and broke her tooth. “

- According to Boney Kapoor, Sridevi was very religious. He revealed in an interview that Sridevi would walk to the Tirupati Balaji Temple in Mumbai every year on her birthday. Boney further said that whenever he faced any trouble, she would walk barefoot from Juhu to Siddhi Vinayak as a form of prayer.
