The 30-year-old was shot dead by police shortly after 5am in Rotherhithe, south London yesterday, after officers swooped on a quiet residential street.

The dramatic moment Hodgson was knocked down in Bywater Place was caught on camera after he managed to gain entry to the property.

Officers confirmed that he knew at least one person who lived in the house.

The Mirror reports that he appeared in court last June charged with “stalking involving serious alarm/disturbance”.

Hodgson is accused of entering the woman’s bedroom without her consent and sending messages asking her to open the door.

Court documents showed that he was issued a restraining order after the alleged incident.

The terrifying behavior was said to have taken place between January and April last year.

Hodgson was brought before the court again after he failed to comply with his bail conditions by breaking the night curfew.

A neighbor told the Evening Standard: “He was a troubled person.

“He always looked stressed and kind of haunted. He was always out smoking.

“He was very shy and always looking over his shoulder. He was young, but his hair was falling out as if from stress.

“I am amazed that he had all that military equipment and that he was straining with weapons.

“I never noticed any of that stuff being delivered here. He usually looked unkempt—the same jeans and worn-out clothes.”

The Metropolitan Police were called to Surrey Quays in the early hours of yesterday morning after Hodgson attempted to enter the property.

Unarmed officers are said to have tried to talk to him but were forced to call for help after he threatened them.

More police rushed down the street and he was killed.

Police have now launched an investigation into the man’s death.

A witness recorded the moment when police officers and paramedics provided first aid in the middle of the street.

Weapons, including crossbow clubs, and a gas mask were strewn across the road as officers set up a cordon and forensics officers arrived.

The police confirmed that the man was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a knife, a sword and an ax with him.

Aerial images of the street show items, including water bottles, strewn across the pavement outside the address with crime scene markers placed next to them.

‘IN SHOCK’

Neighbors said that they were woken up by a burst of screaming and yelling.

Steve Cornish, 70, who lives nearby, said residents were “in shock” after the shooting.

He told The Sun: “There have been incidents here before – stabbings and fights, but nothing like this.

“You get your standard crime in this area, but much lower than other parts of London. This cul-de-sac in particular, it’s very, very quiet.”

Restaurant owner Akber Baloch, 52, said: “I was sleeping and heard shouting. It also sounded like someone was banging on the door.

I could hear someone screaming and then everything went silent. I think a man and a woman were fighting.
