Sadow was a middle linebacker in football and grew up in Trotwood, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton. He was a student at Marietta College. (That’s in Marietta, Ohio, not Marietta, Georgia) and was making $1 an hour working at a neighborhood pool club. This allowed him to win the pool championship at his college. Sadow moved to Atlanta after graduating from Emory Law School.
Sadow has devoted his entire legal career to criminal defense, unlike some attorneys who started out as state or county prosecutors. Sadow claimed in a 2015 interview that he had an epiphany at the age of 11 while watching “The Defenders” on a vintage black-and-white TV. “I turned around and said to my father, ‘This is what I want to do. He was the lead attorney in a federal racketeering prosecution related to the Gold Club, a long-gone strip club where female athletes received sexual favors. Steve Kaplan, the owner of the club, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 months in prison in 2002.
Rapper Gunna, who was charged in another Fulton County RICO case, was one of Sadow’s most recent clients. Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, accepted a plea deal with the state in which he agreed to plead guilty to one count of RICO violations in exchange for a suspension of further prison time and the preservation of his innocence. RICO has been “overused” by prosecutors in Georgia, according to Sadow, who said in a 2021 interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
