Stockton Rush (1962-2023) was an American engineer, pilot, and businessman. He is the co-founder and CEO of OceanGate Inc. He made headlines for the 2023 Titan submersible incident, a tourist expedition in which the Titan submersible carrying five passengers, including Titan co-pilot Stockton Rush, disappeared in the North Atlantic in 2023 The ocean on the way to view the wreckage of the Titanic on June 18. He was pronounced dead in June 2023 at the age of 61.

Richard Stockton Rush III was born on Saturday, March 31, 1962 in San Francisco, California (age 61 in 2023). His zodiac sign is Aries. When he was a child, he wanted to be an astronaut. In 1980, at the age of 18, he obtained his commercial pilot’s license. He graduated from Phillips Exeter College in Exeter, USA, in the 1980s. He wanted to become a military pilot; however, he was unable to do this due to his vision problems. He later moved from San Francisco to Seattle to join American aerospace manufacturing company McDonnell Douglas as a flight test engineer for the F-15 Eagle jet. At age 19, he earned his DC-8/Captain rating at the United Airlines Jet Training Academy. In 1984, he graduated from Princeton University in New Jersey with a degree in aerospace engineering. In 1989, he received his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

He came from a wealthy family in San Francisco. His maternal grandfather, Ralph K. Davies, was an American businessman and political appointee. His maternal grandmother, Louise M. Davies, was a philanthropist for whom San Francisco’s Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall is named. Stockton Rush is a descendant of Benjamin Rush and Richard Stockton, two outstanding figures from the founding of the United States. Benjamin and Richard played important roles in the American Revolution and are known as the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Rush built a submersible in 2006, buying parts from a private company and using blueprints provided by a retired U.S. Navy submarine commander. He wanted to explore the waters of Puget Sound, the mouth of the Pacific Ocean, while training to scuba dive. The submersible he built was 12 feet long and could dive to a depth of 30 feet.

He died on June 22, 2023, after the Titan submersible imploded in the North Atlantic. On June 18, 2023, the Titan submersible disappeared in the North Atlantic about 400 nautical miles (740 kilometers) off the coast of Newfoundland. The submersible carried a group of tourists, including businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, deep-sea explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, businessman Shahzada Shahzada Dawood, Shahzada’s son Suleman Dawood and Ocean Gate founder Stockton Rush, among others. They were on an expedition and witnessed the wreckage of the Titanic. After the Titan disappeared, the U.S. military helped search for the submersible. On June 22, 2023, Titan was reported to have imploded, likely during descent, resulting in the instant death of five people on board.

    I mean, if you just want to be safe, don’t get out of bed, don’t get in the car, don’t do anything. At some point, you’re going to take on some risk, and it’s really a risk-reward question. I figured I could do this safely by breaking the rules. ”
