The tragic news was announced on Xu, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday afternoon by Happy Mondays member Rowetta.
“So beautiful, so brave, so LOVED. We will all miss you Imelda Mounfield,” she wrote.
“All my thoughts and love to Mani and your beautiful, precious boys and love to all of Imelda’s family and friends.”
Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown also paid a moving tribute to Mounfield.
He wrote: “Rip @imeldamounfield GOD BLESS MANA and his boys X”.
Mounfield, an events agent, was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in November 2020.
Since her diagnosis, she and Mani have hosted a number of charity events in a bid to raise funds for The Christie Hospital, Stockport Charitable Trust and Maggie’s.
Mounfield has previously spoken about how charities have supported her during her battle with cancer.
“Cancer doesn’t just affect the person who has it, it affects everyone around them, and I hope that by investing in more research, we can help ease the devastation it causes families,” she said.
Before the couple’s most recent auction, she said Maggie’s “supported us from the beginning,” with counseling and resources to help explain the seriousness of cancer to their children and its impact on the family.
“It’s a constant battle for me and I will use their services more in the future,” she added.
Mounfield revealed to ITV last year that her diagnosis came as a shock to her and her entire family because “she wasn’t bad”.
“The doctors didn’t know how I would react to the chemotherapy, but I reacted quite well. I’ve been on quite a long journey in the last two years,” she explained.
News of Mounfield’s death comes less than a month after Stone Roses bassist Pete Garner died at the age of 61.
It is believed that he also passed away after a battle with cancer.
Zvijezda was in the original line-up of the band when they were founded in 1983.
