She said: “That hospitalization was a kind of wake-up call for me.
“My body just started convulsing and I almost passed out because the pain was so strong.
“I was overheating because of the hormones – my body couldn’t control its temperature, which in turn made me dehydrated. The pain was in waves, coming like contractions.”
Montello was prescribed strong painkillers to relieve his symptoms.
They must be taken before menstrual cramps, known as dysmenorrhea, begin, which are difficult to predict.
She said: “I’m going to be really honest about it because I think it’s something that we really need to talk about more about painful pain… not a lot of people and not all women will experience the same thing.
“It’s so devastating and very emotionally draining, not to mention physically.”
Montell joined the BBC reboot of Gladiator earlier this year when she took on the alter ego of Fire to demonstrate her power and strength.
She shared her excitement about her signing to Strictly, telling fans: “Strictly ARE YOU READY Fire is here to light up the Ballroom.
“Wow, I’m so honored to be asked to work on the show. It’s such an amazing thing to be a part of and I can’t wait to get started.
