The first celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2023.
After an eventful Saturday Night Live show, Sunday’s results show saw Les Dennis and his partner Nancy Xu become the first couple to leave the dance floor in the series.

The duo faced Nikita Kanda and her partner Gorko Márquez in a dance battle.
Both couples performed their performances again, with Les performing the samba and Nikita dancing the Charleston.

After both couples danced a second time, the four judges decided who they wanted to save and therefore who would go home.

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke decided to save Nikita and Gorka, giving them the majority of votes.
Motsi said that both couples were better in the dance match, while Nikita and Gorka were “exceptionally better”.

Anton added: “I thought it was a competition between the two couples in the performance itself and who could really nail their performance. I think the couple who did the best job were Nikita and Gorka.”
Chief judge Shirley Ballas also agreed that Nikita and Gorka deserved to be saved and said she would give them her vote.

Speaking to presenter Tess Daly after the results were announced, Les said he had done “what he could”.
“I had the best time, this lady was amazing, a great teacher, she really tested me. I did the best I could for you, I hope!” he said turning to Nancy.
Speaking about his fellow contestants, he continued: “What’s worse, I’m going to miss you so much.

“I really appreciate and understand the judges’ point of view, thank you so much for giving me a 10 for fun,” said Shirley. “I hope I had fun, that’s what I came here for. Strictly is the best and the people who put this on, you’re all amazing!”
When Tess asked her how she’s been teaching Les in the classroom, Nancy said, “It’s been a journey. It’s been such a short but sweet journey. There are many challenges we all know, but to see you improve every day. I respect you so much , that much.

While this is the last we’ll see of Les and Nancy in the competition, the remaining 14 couples will take to the dance floor next Saturday in a spectacular Movie Special.
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 7 October at 6.20pm with the results on Sunday 8 October at 7.15pm on BBC One.
