Suchetana Bhattacharjee is an Indian freelancer known for her work in the audiovisual field. She is also known for being the daughter of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddadeb Bhattacharjee.

Suchetana Bhattacharjee was born in 1982 in Kolkata, West Bengal (age 41 in 2023). She went to school at Patha Bhavan in Kolkata, West Bengal. She holds a BA in Political Science from Presidency University, Kolkata, West Bengal. When she was in college, she joined the Students Federation of India (SFI) at Presidency University, Kolkata. However, she did not remain involved in politics. She said in an interview that being involved in politics was not important to her as she was the daughter of Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. After graduating from college, she became actively involved in social activities and actively raised people’s awareness of various environmental issues. She organizes the Alanyak Wildlife Film Festival in Nandan every year, screening nature and wildlife films for four days. In interviews, she expressed her passion for saving the environment and mentioned her desire to become a zookeeper.

She is in a relationship with media professional Suchanda Mukherjee since 2014. She mentioned in the interview that her partner is heterosexual and she is often asked why she lives with a trans man. In an interview, she said of her partner:
We have been friends since elementary school. She was always supportive and protective. In 2004 we realized we were more than just friends. Marriage is not a priority. Due to space constraints, we moved to an apartment in the same building on Palm Avenue where my parents lived. That was my grandmother’s apartment. Gender and Sexual Orientation
She calls herself transgender. In 2023, Suchetana came out publicly as transgender at an LGBTQIA+ seminar in Mumbai. The news was shared by Suprabha Roy, convener of LGBTQIA+ Democratic Association, at a seminar titled ‘Stories of Pride Month’ organized by the People’s Relief Committee. According to reports, Suchetana plans to undergo sex reassignment surgery and adopt the name “Suchetana”. She initiated legal proceedings and obtained the certificates required for the proceedings. In an interview, she revealed that she has identified herself as a man since her Montessori days, and said that at the age of 41, she has the ability to make her own decisions. She also mentioned that her father knew her identity since she was a child. She said in an interview,
I am in the midst of a medical transition. Legal proceedings will begin soon. But the gender on my voter ID, Aadhaar card and PAN card is still “Female”. I should be called Suchetan Bhattacharjee aka Suchetana Bhattacharjee. “

In 2013, West Bengal Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee accused Suchetana of running an NGO and reaping financial benefits from it. Chatterjee also claimed that she received financial assistance from the Tatas to support her organization. The allegations came after Suchetana’s father Buddhadebu expressed doubts about Mamata Banerjee’s honesty in an interview and suggested an independent inquiry into the family’s finances. This created a stir in Bengali politics as it is rare for any politician to question Mamata Banerjee’s integrity publicly, especially on television. Responding to the allegations, Suchetana clarified that she ran an organization that produced wildlife films between 2004 and 2007. She said her organization has never received any government funding and she has not personally benefited from it financially. In an interview, she spoke about this and said:
I am convinced that the current state government has all records and information about this organization and that the government is free to conduct any investigation to uncover the truth of what I am now saying. Trinamool Congress leaders and ministers are running a false campaign by involving me and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, I would also like to clarify that I have never received any financial support from the Tatas. This is absolutely a false statement by Trinamool Congress ministers and leaders who I am sure do not have any documents or evidence to justify their accusations against me. ”

- As a child, she had a tomboy-like appearance, preferring to dress more masculinely and wearing boyish haircuts. However, she did not face any difficulties in school or college because her friends and teachers supported her choices. Many people often call her “Dad” when she goes to her father’s office. In an interview, she revealed that some educated people questioned her sexual orientation.

- In 2011, a case was reported in which a girl named Parometa allegedly deceived apartment owners in Mumbai by falsely claiming to be the daughter of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. In 2007, she claimed to be the chief minister’s daughter and rented an apartment in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. Based on this false claim, the owner agreed to rent the apartment to her. According to the owners, Palometa lived in their home for three years and constantly demanded money from them. She showed them fake documents from the Income Tax Department claiming that her house was raided and Rs. Rs 29 crore was seized. She also borrowed Rs. from her daughter. 15 Lakhs and took a personal loan. 2 million represents their son. Their son Sanjeev spoke about the incident in an interview and said,
I work in retail and earn Rs 60,000 per month. But after she took out a loan in my name, I only had 2,000 rupees in hand. She signed an agreement agreeing to pay in monthly installments. But she stopped paying in February 2010. She also maxed out my credit card. She also sold her apartment in Malad for Rs 40 lakh, though the flat was valued at Rs 40 lakh. 7 million. - In 2021, Suchetana’s aunt Ira Basu received a pension order from the Inspectorate of Schools (DI) in Kada, twelve years after she retired from government schools. Suchetana mentioned in an interview that she was nominated as a recipient of her aunt’s pension but expressed her unwillingness to accept her property. She said in the interview,
My parents and I were disgusted by her behavior. I wish her good health and long life. But I asked her not to associate me and my parents with her activities. “
