Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe Adorably Praise One Another as They Relaunch Their Podcast: 'So Smart' (Exclusive)

Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe sing each other’s praises.

The retired athletes – who announced their engagement to each other in October 2020 – have relaunched their podcast, A touch more with Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, in August.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Bird, 43, and Rapinoe, 39, reveal what makes each other such great co-hosts. “I think Megan is going to be great,” Bird begins, praising his fiancée for being “very thoughtful” as a podcaster.

“She’s also very fun and spontaneous with it,” says the former WNBA star. “So there will be a balance.” Turning directly to Rapinoe, Bird adds, “You’re just balanced in your insight, but you also bring humor and speed to what we’re talking about.”

For Rapinoe, the first thing that comes to mind is, “Sue is so smart and so funny.”

“Sometimes I feel like I’m the one who has the most privilege to hear it all the time, so I don’t think people really even know,” Rapinoe adds of Bird’s wit. “Your friends know how funny you are, but also how Minority Report where everything pulls, it’s Sue’s brain.”

The former NWSL forward — whose jersey will be retired by the OL Reign on August 25 — adds that she’s “really grateful” for Bird’s speed and insight on their podcast. “It makes my job a lot easier,” jokes Rapinoe.

As the episodes continue to roll out, Rapinoe says she’s “looking forward” to Bird showing more of her “funny” personality and “getting her deep cuts,” as they discuss a variety of sports and entertainment topics on the show.

In upcoming episodes, Bird says fans can expect to see special guests, “people who maybe add something to things we’re already talking about,” and teases, “maybe people you don’t necessarily hear about or hear from very often and their story, also of their insight.”

Rapinoe says the themes will run the gamut from “super serious or something happening to something silly and goofy” on Touch more. “It’s really not that far from it when we’re at home,” she says.

“We’re kind of just dissecting it, talking about it, giving our opinions, sharing, you know what I mean? We go back and forth, it’s really not that different from what we’ve done as a couple just in private time, in our own conversations,” Rapinoe continues , noting, “Now it’s just got a format.”
