Sumit Anand is a popular Indian stand-up comedian with a lighthearted style of comedy. He is a bank manager-turned-stand-up comedian known for his ability to make the audience laugh.

Sumit Anand was born on Sunday, September 15, 1985 (35 years old in 2020) in Rohtak, Haryana. He graduated from DAV Centenary Public School, Rohtak, and then studied for a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Kurukshetra University (2002-2006). He then pursued a postgraduate diploma in marketing/finance at Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi (2006-2008).

After completing his MBA, Sumit worked as a Private Wealth Manager at HDFC Bank from June 2008 to August 2009. He then worked as a Portfolio Manager at IndusInd Bank, New Delhi from August 2009 to September 2010. He was the General Manager, Digital Sales and Marketing at PaGaLGuY.com (2010-2015) after which he moved on to work as a Business Consultant at Ideative. He has been with Ideative since then.

Sumit started doing stand-up in 2013. His first video on YouTube was titled “Stupid Indian Bulletin”, which has now been deleted. He is a regular on NDTV Prime’s comedy show “Comedy Rising Stars”, Sumit is one of the few Indian comedians to have performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (twice) and the Soho Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in London (the world’s largest arts festival).
Sumit shot to fame after his video, “My Job, My Home and My Maid,” went viral. The video has been viewed more than 12 million times on YouTube.
Sumit has performed over 100 shows across India (as of 2020). Sumit has teamed up with another popular Indian stand-up comedian, Abhishek Upmanyu, for a special show titled “The Stupid Show”.
Sumit gained great popularity through his one-man shows “The Many Mistakes I Made in My Life” and “Nothing to Do with Godzilla”, and he often made sarcastic comments on the Hollywood movie “Godzilla” in his show “Nothing to Do with Godzilla”.

- It is reported that Sumit occasionally drinks alcohol.
- Sumit was interested in public speaking since childhood, however, he was not comfortable speaking in his native Haryana when communicating with locals. After finding his feet in the field of stand-up comedy, Sumit started citing funny examples from the conversations he had with people from his hometown while growing up.
- Sumit shared in his blog (chantanand blog) the story of how his name changed from “Amit” to “Sumit” in his childhood. He changed his name because a tea vendor’s son near his home was also named this.
- Sumit admits that he is socially awkward and extremely lazy, but this seems to help his lighthearted comedic style.
