After Kiaan was born, Karisma reportedly moved to her mother’s house in Mumbai. Soon, rumors of Sunjay and Karisma’s divorce began to circulate in the media, which later turned out to be true. In 2014, the couple filed for divorce by mutual consent and finally divorced on June 13, 2016. According to a leading newspaper report, as alimony, Karisma transferred Sunjay’s father’s house (in Khar) to her name and bought bonds worth Rs 14 crore for the children.

In October 2008, he became the Chairman of the Gurgaon-based automotive company Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd. He has also served as Managing Director of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd., CEO of Sona Group and Chairman of Sona Comstar.

In an interview, Karisma said that Sanjay tortured her during their honeymoon. He asked Karisma to spend a night with his friends but she refused, so he physically assaulted her. She further shared that Sanjay also had physical relations with his first wife after marrying Karisma. She even said that her mother-in-law used to physically assault her. She shared an incident where her mother-in-law gifted her a dress but due to her pregnancy, the dress did not fit her, so she was assaulted by her mother-in-law.
