Super Bowl 2024 Is the Most-Watched Telecast in U.S. History with Over 123M Viewers

A record number of people watched Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday.

An average of 123.4 million viewers watched the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 after the NFL teams met at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, according to initial CBS numbers based on Nielsen Fast National and Adobe Analytics data.

That includes 112 million viewers who watched the Chiefs’ big win on CBS Sports, marking the largest audience in network history, according to a CBS statement. At the same time, Super Bowl LVIII was also the most watched Super Bowl in history.

Final Nielsen data will be released Tuesday and includes numbers taken across all platforms, including CBS Television Network, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports, Univision and NFL digital properties such as NFL+.

However, despite the huge viewing figures, the 2024 Super Bowl failed to break the world record for viewing of sporting events set by the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar.

Nearly 1.5 billion worldwide watched Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties during the final held at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium on December 18, 2022.
