Survivor’s Parvati Shallow Calls Relationship with Comedian Mae Martin 'an In Flux Situation' (Exclusive)

Parvati Shallow may be saying “no deal” to continue dating Mae Martin.

The Island Agreed or Not Agreed The Season 2 contestant, 42, tells PEOPLE that she considers her relationship with the comedian, 37, “a changing situation.”

“I went through trying to fit into the structures of society and the definitions of dating and the definitions of relationships, and I’m like, do I want to do that? Or do I just want to take a big ball of clay and make it what I want?” Shallow says. “I travel a lot and have these really fun, amazing adventures, so I’m in this place where I’m like, what do I really want?”

Shallow and Martin began dating in March 2023, and the reality star made the relationship official on Instagram later that year. Shallow was previously married to a colleague Survived student John Fincher, with whom she had a daughter, Ama, in June 2018, five years before they divorced in 2021.

“Getting divorced and going through the experience that I went through was really challenging,” says Shallow. “And then I met Mae, it’s a very different relationship than I’ve ever had.”

Shallow plans to detail these relationships in her upcoming book Pretty girls never winwhich debuts in July. She will also launch a companion podcast to the book in the coming weeks with reality TV producer Amy Bean.

“We don’t have a meaningful life, it’s a bit messy and chaotic,” says Shallow. “But we will have interviews with people who have figured it out — or have figured it out in certain areas of life — so we can tap into their expertise.”

As Shallow tries to figure it all out, she says dating has been “the most challenging area of ​​my life.”

“It was really hard,” she adds. “I feel like I can make it anywhere else, but dating always puts little obstacles in my plans.”

Having a reputation as survived’Black Widow, who has used connections with male contestants to up her game, doesn’t help.

“That cannibal reputation stuck with me,” Shallow says. “I thought, oh, what man is going to want to date me? Now, I think I’ve shaken it up a bit, but I’m still a big presence. So if someone is threatened by that or if someone wants control over dating or wants power over me, that dynamic is not going to work for me.”

She continues, “I’ve met very few people who are confident enough to let me be my full self because I’m like, oh no, I’m pretty big. I like to flirt. I really connect with people very easily. So I think that’s a big ask for the people I date.”

Shallow admits to using her Black Widow flirtatious ways to up her game on Deal or No Deal Island by aligning with Australian survived’with David Genat.

“I watched David’s season Australia before I started Agreement or notand I saw him play — he gets along with the girls,” Shallow says. “He thinks he can control women. I was perfect. I will play that game, which is easy for me to play, like [a] a flirtatious hookup game. I’m gonna let this guy think he can control me. But also, I had a lot of respect for David as a member Australian Survived winner, because that game is hardcore. We both had a mutual understanding that we would protect each other because we needed each other.”

Aside from games and going out, Shallow calls her daughter “my #1 priority.”

“She’s at this point where she says, ‘You’re famous. I want to be famous.’ I said, ‘Oh my God. I’m not that famous. Only certain circles of people really like this reality show,'” says Shallow. “Sometimes people want to take pictures of me, and she’s like, ‘What about me?'”

But she watched a few episodes of Shallow on Deal or No Deal Islandas well as season 2 Traitorswhere Shallow “killed” his colleagues along with fellow traitors Dan Gheesling and Phaedra Parks.

“She watched one episode Traitors with me on it—the one where I poisoned Ekin-Su—and she said, ‘Wait a minute. Are you a villain? Killing people?’ She was horrified – the TV personality recalls. “And I said, ‘It’s a game. Ha-ha. It’s funny.’ I didn’t show her anymore Traitors after that because she was traumatized.”

Still, Shallow thinks Ama is fit to follow in her footsteps.

“She’s a performer and a great competitor,” Shallow says of her daughter. “I could really see her excelling in this genre of life, which is wild because growing up, I never considered being a reality TV contestant as my career. But life had other plans.”
