Sushma Verma is an Indian cricketer who plays as a wicketkeeper-batsman for the Indian women’s national cricket team. Sushma is a right-handed batsman who represented India in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup final. In February 2023, Sushma was bought by the Gujarat Giants for Rs 60 lakh at the first Women’s Super League auction held in Mumbai.

Sushma Verma Devi was born on Tuesday, November 3, 1992 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh (30 years; as of 2022). Her zodiac sign is Scorpio. Although her father wanted Sushma to be educated near her home, Sushma attended Government Model School, Portmore, Shimla, which was far away. She grew up playing various sports such as volleyball, handball, badminton and cricket. In an interview, Sushma shared an interesting anecdote from her school days and said:
When I was a student, we used to go for snacks at 6pm after playing games. But my PE teacher and volleyball coach knew I wasn’t coming and would be playing cricket. We didn’t have a cricket bat or a cricket ball, I used a badminton racket and let the other team use their rackets. All I wanted to do was swing, and that used to bring me joy. “
Later, seeing her interest in the sport, her parents enrolled her in a cricket academy to improve her skills. In 2009, Sushma attended one of the first Indian Residential Colleges in Himachal Pradesh.

Sushma Verma represents Himachal Pradesh Women, Railway Women Cricket Team, India Women Green Team and India Women Blue Team in domestic competitions. In 2011, she captained the Himachal Pradesh U-19 women’s team in the finals of the All India Under-19 Women’s Championship. Due to lack of opportunities while playing for Himachal Pradesh, Sushma Verma soon started playing cricket for the Railways women’s cricket team. Soon, she was selected to play divisional cricket in the North Zone. In 2022, during the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, Sushma was the third highest run-scorer with 237 runs in seven innings at an average of 79 and a strike rate of 105.80.

Sushma Verma made her international T20 debut against Bangladesh Women in Vadodara, Gujarat on 5 April 2013, becoming the first Himachal Pradesh to represent India in international cricket Cricket player (male or female) of the match. In 2019, Verma was included in the Indian squad for the West Indies tour after becoming the second-highest run-scorer in senior T20 matches in the country.
