Suzanne Lisa Kolber was born into a Jewish family on May 14, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother’s name is Sandra Kolber, and her father’s name is Gene Kolber. She attended Sandy Run High School in Dresher, Pennsylvania and graduated from Upper Dublin High School in 1982.

She graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in telecommunications in 1986. While still a student, she landed a position as sports director at Dynamic Cable in Coral Gables, Florida. She also worked there for two years, from 1984 to 1986. During that time, she was also a member of the University of Miami ski team.

Suzy Kolber’s first job out of college was as a video coordinator at CBS Sports in New York in 1986. During that time, she was also the producer of the 5:30 PM ET sportscast at Miami’s WTVJ-TV, a position she held from 1985 to 1989. .She worked as a freelance specials producer for WPLG-TV in Miami from 1989 to 1990. She was also a producer on two magazine shows: ‘Greyhound Racing America’ in Miami, Florida (1988–90) and ‘Cowboys Special’ Issue’ in Irving, Texas (1990–91).

In 1991, she became even busier as a sports announcer. She was a reporter and producer for the Breeders’ Cup Newsfeed in Greenwich, Connecticut; and field producer for ‘Inside Edition in New York; sports specials producer for WCIX-TV in Miami; and producer and director of NFL Films. Similarly, she worked as a weekend sports anchor and weekday reporter at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida between December 1991 and 1993.
