A week after Maia Kealoha was cast as Lilo, the live-action movie Lilo & Stitch would have cast Sydney Agudong as Nani, Lilo’s older sister. Agudong, a native of Kaua’i, Hawaii, is a relatively new actress on the scene working primarily in independent film.
In addition to appearing as Charlize in the fourth season of Netflix’s On My Block, the 23-year-old also starred in the coming-of-age drama West Michigan on Amazon-iTunes. Independent films like At Your Feet (not yet released) and Infamously in Love also feature her in prominent roles. Meanwhile, the Lilo & Stitch adaptation will be Kealoha’s feature film debut.
After The Hollywood Reporter revealed Agudong’s casting, outraged fans claimed that Disney+, the production company backing the live-action, was encouraging “colorism.” This is probably because Nani Pelekai’s character has a dark complexion, which contrasts with Agudong’s skin color.
In addition to the above, The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis was brought on board this February, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter at the time. It is not known what he will do in the new Lilo & Stitch.
Billy Magnussen, known for his roles in No Time to Die and Many Saints of Newark, is a cast member in the upcoming Lilo & Stitch movie. Details about his personality are also being glossed over.

However, many netizens also expressed their support for the young actress. They advised the attackers to ignore her physical characteristics and focus on her Hawaiian ancestry.
The live-action adaptation was officially announced in October 2018 with Rideback’s (formerly Lin Pictures’) Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich producing. Originally, Mike Van Waes was going to write the screenplay for the adaptation; but according to current reports, Chris Kekaniokalani Bright will do it for him.
Dean Fleischer Camp will direct the next film. For the 2021 release of Marcel the Shell with Shoes, Fleischer Camp was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 95th Academy Awards.
