Career
Pickerington High School in Pickerington, Ohio was Tac’s alma mater. He later attended the University of Michigan to play football. He also played basketball in high school. He attended the University of Michigan as a football scholar.
Taco appeared in ten games as a backup defensive end in 2013. As a sophomore in 2014, he appeared in 12 games. He appeared in 13 games as a junior, recording 30 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
In his senior year in 2016, he finished with 38 tackles. He was also named to the “All-Big Ten Defensive First Team.”
NFL draft pundits and analysts projected Taco to be a first-round pick after his college days. Taco and other members attended Michigan’s Pro Day on March 24, 2017.
Taco chose the 40-yard dash, 20-yard dash and 10-yard dash. He was able to lower his times in all three while also doing position drills. Sports Illustrated ranked Taco as the sixth best rusher in the draft. Similarly, ESPN ranked him as the sixth-best defensive tackle and Pro Football Focus ranked him as the seventh-best edge rusher.
Taco was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He was selected as the seventh defensive end among the members of Michigan. On May 11, 2017, Taco signed a four-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys. He competed in training camp for the backup defensive end position against Charles Tapper, Damontre Moore and Benson Mayowa.
Taco made his debut against the New York Giants in the season opener. He did not score a single point in the 19-3 victory. Furthermore, he had his first career sack in the Cowboys’ 17-42 loss to the Denver Broncos. His first career sack came against the Kansas City Chiefs in a game. Additionally, he has two of three sacks in his last five games.
Taco was released by the Dallas Cowboys on September 18, 2019 after the team was unable to find a trade partner.
