dispute
racist target
Taral Patel revealed in September 2023 that he faced racist and hateful messages on social media. Online critics have questioned his American origins, accused him of seeking to take away freedoms and guns, and made derogatory comments about his faith and community. Patel, a Democrat, stressed that while he welcomes criticism of his policies, these attacks are unacceptable. He emphasized the diversity of Fort Bend County and attributed the hatred to misguided fears stoked by figures like former President Donald Trump. Patel, who grew up in the county, expressed pride in being an American and emphasized his campaign’s focus on hard work and respect for all communities. He issued a statement saying,
As the Democratic candidate for County Commissioner, I am always open to criticism of my policy positions and issue positions. However, when supporters of my Republican opponent decide to make racist, anti-immigrant, Hinduphobic, or other abhorrent slurs against my family, faith, community, colleagues, and me—that crosses a line. ”
Since announcing my term as Commissioner, I have worked tirelessly to connect with communities across our county.
Our activities are based on the following values: compassion, hard work and respect for all.
