Of course, Taylor Swift wasn’t going to wear just one dress to the 2024 MTV VMAs.
The “Fortnight” singer changed into a beaded minidress after entering the awards show – and the dress featured a UFO on the front, which appeared to be a nice nod to the singer’s hit “Down Bad” from her latest album, Department for tortured poets.

The bespoke teal and green Monse dress, which also featured leather straps and a gathered skirt (and which she paired with Rainbow K diamond horn earrings), featured a beaded UFO right in the center of the chest – an Easter egg perhaps?
Swift said on iHeartRadio in April that the lyrics to “Down Bad” are about “love bombing,” comparing it to abandonment and alien abduction.
“It’s like this girl was abducted by aliens, but she wanted to stay with them,” she said. “And then they drop her back in her hometown. She’s like, ‘Wait, no. Where are you going? I loved it there, it was weird, but it was great, come back.’
Swifties on social media immediately picked up on the reference, dubbing the outfit change “Down Bad dress.”

Every look Taylor Swift has worn at the VMAs since her first appearance in 2008.
When Swift made her first appearance at New York’s UBS Arena on September 11, she sported a completely vampy Dior look. She teamed a yellow plaid bustier top with attached skirt with a pair of black velvet hot pants and caged leather gloves. Swift also kept up her streak of thigh-high boots in a pair of Stuart Weitzman’s Maverick Boots, which retail for $1,200 and are currently sold out.
She completed the look with dramatic glamor and even ditched her signature red lip. Her hair was styled in messy waves and side-swept bangs.
And of course she was bejeweled, wearing 30-carat Lorraine Schwartz pear-shaped canary earrings with yellow diamonds surrounded by black jade to create a yellow checkered look.

Swift was nominated for 10 awards at this year’s show, including best collaboration with Post Malone for “Fortnight” and artist of the year, both of which she won. Post Malone is the second most nominated artist of the night, with nine nominations.
